Papillon remake for the Canaries? |

The Canary Islands could be the set for a remake of 1970s film Papillon, according to reports in the regions, media in recent weeks.
The Oscar nominated prison-break classic starring Steve McQeen and Dustin Hoffman is high on the list of remake possibilities for Holywood and it is rumoured that Leonardo DiCaprio has already been chosen for the leading role. Various sources both here and in the United States indicate that negotiations have begun with the Canarian authorities to secore tax braks if locations in the islands are used to shoot the film.
The speculation increased during the recent International Film Festival in San Sebastián in Spain, when it was revelead that formal talks were under way with the Tenerife Film Commission. Four islands - Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and La Palma - are thought to have been put forward as potential locations, according to Los Cristianos properties.
